The Thirst Project is an organization which gives water to countries without it. The project was started by seven college students who had to come to realize the difficulty to get water in certain areas. It started in the summer of 2007 and quickly grew to become one of the biggest organizations to deliver water. They were doing this so the mortality rates would hopefully decrease and so they could lead productive lives. The solution is to build a well to receive fresh clean water. The cost for each well can range from 7,800 dollars and 20,000 dollars. The Thirst Project has helped give Swaziland water and has nearly given water to 35% of the population, but nearly 1 million people still don't have access to safe drinking water. For example, some women need to walk nearly 4 miles to get access to water and this water is unclean and dangerous to drink. Many developing countries don't have access to clean drinking water. This is causing thousands of deaths daily and could be stopped by spreading awareness and giving one dollar a week to the charity.
I raised my dollar by asking neighbors and friends to give small amounts of change so we could donate to the community. Soon we will be able to raise enough for a pump as long as you and your community. When I found out about the negative effects lack of water I was terrified of the living conditions of certain countries. From lack of water you could become blind, dysentery is also an effect of lack of clean water to wash yourself, and diarrhea is one of the biggest problems which comes from lack of safe drinking water. I myself have not seen the lack of water to where I have gone, but I am aware that it is a huge problem in most developing countries.
It's scary to think that so many people are inaccessible to clean water. To know how many people must be dying everyday for something so meaningless as lack of drinking water. It also feels very good I helped donate if even a little bit to this cause. When I was asking to people to help me donate most had questions n where the money was going to and what was the Thirst Project. Most people also thanked me for bringing awareness about the problems of water which really surprised me. I felt like I really a difference in someone's life no matter how small.
